A Dead Mouse and November the Fifth
It died. And the worse thing is I think I may have suffocated it accidentally, although I imagine it was half way there by the time triumphal cat had finished with it. Well, it's Bonfire Night and I live in Lewes, so if any of you out there know what happens in Lewes on Bonfire Night you will understand when I say that it is not only stunning, but weird. The town is cordoned off, an effigy of the Pope is usually burnt on one of six massive bonfires and the streets are literally filled with burning torches... Sort of pagan. Bloody Mary aka Queen Mary (Henry VIII eldest daughter) came down very hard on 'heretics' and generally burnt them at the stake. Seventeen were burnt in Lewes alone, hence the 'burning of the Pope'. There must be a story here somewhere...
