Watched 30 Days of Night again. This standout film...


... takes place in Barrow, Alaska, so far north that during the winter the sun doesn't rise for 30 days. A gang of vampires take advantage of the prolonged darkness to feast upon the town's inhabitants. This slick and well constructed horror movie is the most accomplished treatment of vampire lore since Near Dark. Josh Hartnett is impressive and Danny Huston as Marlow, the vampire in chief is seriously the business. The language and the look of these new age vampires is hearteningly original. Getting rid of many of the undead cliches, David Slade has crafted a stand out vampire movie. So, an old and somewhat tired formula can be reworked and refreshed. Horror filmmakers take note...
