JG Ballard...
Just one of the admirable 'quirks' of this visionary author was his decision to stay at home with the children when his wife died. This was 1964 and it was almost unheard of for fathers to do this. He called his children the 'miracles of life'. He also said: "my greatest ally was the pram in the hall". Tied to the home, his imagination could take flight. I think it would be fair to say that he was one of our first eco warriors and before the phrase was even dreamed of. The archive of his works has now been saved for the nation, so thanks to the foresight of Anonymous. Loved Empire of the Sun and Cocaine Nights and all those extraordinary futuristic landscapes Ballard created that were by turns, flooded, desiccated, crystallised or concreted over - not forgetting Crash, of course...
